This Week @ the Market

Monday, July 02, 2012

Happy Monday!

It’s a holiday week, so hopefully your work week will be as short as mine! This weekend I had the pleasure of checking out my local farmer’s market and OMG, I was in heaven! I look forward to this time all year for the fresh, delicious and cheap produce that I find.

July brings vegetables such as broccoli, beans, kale, carrots, beets, greens, snap peas and herbs. Fruits include the beginning of berries, melon and cherries! I purchased a HUGE bundle of kale, HUGE bundle of beets, 1lb of snap peas, green onion and garlic all grown in Minnesota and all for $10! That is crazy to me. I typically spend at least $15-$20 for the same produce at the grocery store.

Keep posted for a Kale recipe that will be sure to turn you into a fan ;-)

Eating Our for Less

Monday, November 17, 2008

In keeping with our cost saving series, we’ve explored the question- is there a way to still eat out/ socialize occasionally without it costing us our rent money?

What we‘ve found is that there are a lot of restaurants offering deals.  It could be the happy hour category where there are lots of good eats- chicken nachos, mini burgers or pizzas for example. And we’ve found that happy hour isn’t always the 5 o’clock hour.  Check and see what’s happening in your neighborhood.

Or there are certain nights and/or times when restaurants are offering special meal deals.   If there is a place you want to try but it is out of your budget range, go for lunch.  Many restaurants have much better prices at lunch for many of the same dishes.

Sharing dishes is a good idea too.  So many times the portions are too big for one. So keep your eye out for all of the creative deals before you splurge on the night out! There will be more deals, we can promise. Share you ideas for money saving good times.
